Attendance & Conduct
Please do your best to attend the class you are enrolled in each week. Curriculum in each class is a building process so consistent attendance is CRITICAL to students' success. Students are expected to be punctual so that we may utilize all our time efficiently.
We offer make-up classes as a courtesy at the convenience of the dance studio. DANCERS ARE PERMITTED ONLY (3) MAKE-UP CLASSES PER DANCE SEASON (i.e. 2022-2023). If a class is missed, notice must be given IN ADVANCE of their scheduled class to be EXCUSED. Only excused absences will qualify for a scheduled make-up class. Students may make-up for their excused absence in a comparable level class. Please ask your teacher or HLDA staff member for make-up class recommendations. Make-up classes are not recommended for absences from the months of March through May while preparing for performances. For extenuating circumstances, please contact Team HLDA.
Conduct
Students:
- All students are expected to come to class on time and prepared to work.
- Students should be attentive and obey group directives given by their instructor. (Instructors will kindly guide them in learning this skill).
- Students should be kind and polite to their classmates and teachers. Being courteous and respectful sets the tone for learning.
- Students are expected to remain in class for the duration of time and must receive permission from their instructor to leave for safety reasons. Permission will be granted at the discretion of their instructor with consideration made for young dancers.
- Food and drink is not allowed in the dance campuses nor is chewing gum allowed in class.
- ABSOLUTELY NO CELL PHONES IN CLASS. Students should silence cell phones and leave them in the dressing room at your own risk. HLDA is not responsible for lost or stolen electronics.
- Students are expected to keep their belongings neat and tidy and clean up after themselves while at the campus. This includes disposing of wrappers/papers and keeping their belongings/shoes in the cubbies provided. Staff will help assist our younger dancers, but parent support is appreciated to set this expectation of behavior.
- HLDA is not responsible for any personal belongings left in the campus. “Lost and Found” articles will be disposed of after 30 days.
Parents:
- Parents are expected to be courteous while waiting and keep a low volume in the lobby as the noise is distracting to our dancers! Parents may leave the campus while their child is in class.
- Supervised siblings are welcome to wait in the lobby. We appreciate you helping to keep the waiting area neat and tidy.
- Students should not be dropped off at the campus earlier than 5 minutes before class time and must be picked up promptly. We do not offer supervision in the waiting room area.
- If late for class, please have your dancer wait until the end of music to enter the dance classrooms.
- Observation is closed to parents on a regular basis, however, please ask teachers if a special case is requested. Observation days will be offered at times throughout the year. Please note that we do not offer observation windows or one-way mirrors in our classrooms.
- Posting video clips of classes or choreography on social media is prohibited if more than 30 seconds long. Please respect our intellectual and artistic property.
- Instructors are happy to speak with parents about concerns or give feedback but respectfully ask that you arrange to conference with them in the daytime hours, not during class time.

This is a chance for parents, family and friends to come and observe our classes and see our dancers in action. Please bring your cameras to capture these memories. You'll be amazed at all the improvements each dancer has made since the beginning of the year! Our Visitors Week is also an opportunity to get important details about our annual spring performances, so don't miss it!
Spring Performance
Our annual SPRING CONCERTS (recital) for ALL CORPS and PRIMA Level Classes will be held the weekend of June 3rd and 4th, 2023. The mandatory dress rehearsal for the Spring Concert (Recital) will be held in the dance campus prior to recital to fine tune choreography and costume requirements on May 27th, 2023
We hold a mandatory TECHNICAL DRESS REHEARSAL at the theatre the morning of the performance FOR BOTH RECITAL GROUPS, so please make necessary arrangements to take off work and get child care for other children in your family for that day. Please put these dates on your calendar for your dancers and plan to block out those entire days for this purpose. Additional details for this performance’s schedules and rehearsals will be given at a later date.
Tickets to our Spring Performances will go on sale one month prior to the show. Tickets for the Spring Sparkle Showcase may be purchased through HLDA for the Pre-Ballet/Apprentice performance for $20/ticket, and for the Spring Concert through the Florida Theatre Box office $20 (Plus Taxes & Fees).
Volunteers are welcome and needed! We invite you to help us throughout our dress rehearsals and performances backstage or maybe even on stage! Please share with us any skills or artistry you could contribute to our show. We love to have family members help building props and adding to your dancer's production in any way.
Thank you!
Campus Closures
HLDA typically follows St. Johns County's school calendar of closures for major holidays. Additionally, in the event of serious weather conditions, we will defer to local authorities' recommendations and send out word on the status of each campus by way of email and text alerts (please "opt in" for text alerts). All other Monday holidays (i.e. Memorial Day, etc...), each campus will be open.
ON THE FOLLOWING HOLIDAYS, HLDA WILL BE CLOSED AND CLASSES FALLING ON THESE DAYS ARE NOT SUBJECT TO “MAKE-UP”. These closure dates may be subject to change due to serious weather or emergency.

Tips & Tricks
- Label everything, label everything, label EVERYTHING! Dancers have the same color shoes and tights- protect your purchases by clearly printing their name in all of it.
- Talk to your child about these rules and expectations. Coach them through meeting new friends and doing new things!
- Pack a dance bag. Keep dance clothes, hair brush, hair ties, a snack and water bottle. The after-school rush can be stressful and preparation makes happy dancers. Label personal items as well, especially water bottles!
- Please plan for the dress rehearsal dates, recital dates and campus closures IN ADVANCE. We publish these dates early to help you avoid conflict.
- Please reach out to Team HLDA with any questions or concerns you may have. It's a pleasure to nurture your dancers and help them have the best experience possible!
Health & Safety
It's very important to us that we are careful in our efforts to promote a safe environment for our students and encourage healthy practices as we dance together. Please know that we take the health and safety of our dancers very seriously and hope that we can all cooperate in this area.
If your child has had a fever within the last 24 hours, has a cough, or feels sick, we ask you to keep them home and not have them participate until they are recovered. If a child shows symptoms of illness, they will be removed from class and their parents will be called to pick them up. If a class is missed, families must give notice IN ADVANCE of their scheduled class to be EXCUSED. Excused absences will allow you to schedule up to (3) make-up classes per season (i.e. 2022-2023). Students may make-up for their EXCUSED absence in a comparable level class. Please see our ATTENDANCE POLICY for additional information.
Drop-off/Pick-Up
The lobby will be open for waiting parents and family members and the drop off line will be encouraged, but not required, in order to limit crowding in our waiting areas. Our front desk team will be present to help dancers find their way, if needed. We ask that you use the drop off line to pull up in front of the building to allow dancers to enter/exit the vehicle directly in front of the campus in the coned off area expressly for this purpose. We will guide students into their appropriate classes. We suggest parking farther from the entrance if you choose to stick around and wait in your car. For pick up, we request that Pre-Ballet parents please walk up to the door to receive your child. The lobby is available for waiting and account questions or concerns at the front desk area. Please be prompt in both drop-off and pick up to help us avoid crowding the lobby area. Please follow the car line traffic pattern to help keep everything flowing and avoid dancers crossing traffic.
Sanitizing
Extra care is taken to keep common areas and bathrooms clean with regular sanitizing. Hand sanitizer will be available and offered to students often. Of course, plenty of soap and water is available too.
Water cooler
The water cooler is available with supervision from staff members. We strongly encourage you to send your child to class with a water bottle CLEARLY LABELED WITH THEIR NAME.
Masks
Masks are not expected, but if you feel more comfortable wearing one you may. We do not encourage them to be worn in actual dance classes. Air flow is a concern when participating in aerobic exercise.
THANK YOU!
"Thank you" just isn't enough for your support, business, and for helping us make HLDA what it is today. There is always work to be done and I'm hopeful that we can help our dancers feel secure and engaged in this activity and art form we all love so much!
Sincerely,
Heather Loveland & Staff at HLDA
